Vegas is going through difficult times. The pandemic, competition with online casinos, and the decline in the attractiveness of the former "luxury vibe" hit the city hard. But since Las Vegas has not yet sunk into the desert sand, then there are factors that keep its economy afloat. One of these factors was gaming parlors.
How bad is everything in Vegas
In the first eight months of 2025, the tourist flow to Las Vegas fell by 11% compared to last year - this is the worst figure in a decade. The number of casino visitors decreased by 11.3% only by June.
The reasons are obvious: flights and accommodation have become more expensive, and guests have less and less extra money for gambling. This immediately hit the income of large resorts, and the usual customer retention strategies no longer worked as before.
What are gaming parlors?
Against this background, gaming parlors were in the spotlight. It's basically a mini-casino with no luxury hotels, restaurants, or shows. Their concept is simple: come and play right away.
Previously, such establishments could not be opened in Nevada, later it was allowed, but with a higher minimum deposit. Over time, the rules were equalized, and salons began to grow in number. Most often, they are located at bars, cafes or nightclubs. The player does not need to book a room and dine with a famous chef - he gets quick access to slots or roulette.
For part of the audience, it became an ideal format: without pathos, without additional expenses, just a game.
Why salons are becoming more and more popular
Today, about 70-80% of the city's income is still generated by land-based casinos, but the share of salons is growing steadily. The reason is simple - opening such a business is cheaper.
There is no need for huge investments in land and buildings, it is easier to organize security and control. Investments are returned faster than in the case of giant resorts. That is why entrepreneurs are increasingly betting on salons.
But at the same time, it is important to remember: Vegas has always been not only about gambling, but also about the atmosphere of status. And after a successful session at the poker table, a player may want to put on a tuxedo, walk along the Strip and have dinner in a restaurant. Large operators like MGM, Caesars or Wynn, who get their share through expensive entertainment, are already winning here.
How everything is intertwined
The economy of Vegas is now arranged in such a way that everyone will win: both salons and large casinos. If tourist flows grow again, this will affect the entire market. That is why the state authorities, large gambling corporations and owners of small halls act in unison. Loyal laws regarding salons only speed up this process.
