The new South Park series dealt a blow to prediction markets and event betting

In the fifth episode of the twenty-seventh season, entitled "Conflict of Interest," the creators of the legendary animated series South Park turned their satirical attention to the rapidly growing prediction markets. The main storyline was the conflict between Eric Cartman and Kyle Broflovski, which flared up against the backdrop of the craze of schoolchildren to bet on the outcome of various events. The audience and critics instantly drew analogies with the well-known prediction platform "Kalshi". Uploaded Image Interestingly, even before the premiere of the episode, many platforms specializing in prediction markets themselves turned the content of the series into a betting item. Thus, Kalshi offered its users to guess whether the names of major iGaming operators will be mentioned in the series. The trading volume in this market reached an impressive $1.5 million. On rival marketplace Polymarket, users bet on how often certain words would be heard in an episode, with 71% probabilities: "predict," 45% "Trump," and, in true South Park flavor, 55% "dildo." The Myriad platform also did not stand aside, where the market for mentioning real brands collected $11.4 thousand with a probability of 31.7%. Fueling interest in the situation, on September 24, the official account of Kalshi on the social network X (formerly Twitter) published a post with the question "Will we watch?", designed in the corporate style of their markets. The probability of this event, of course, they estimated at 99%, which was an ironic addition to the subsequent satire in the animated series itself.
